Description:
The Bethelkerk in Amsterdam, like many other churches in the Netherlands have experienced a decline in visitor numbers and is in need of an alternative concept to stay relevant within the community. This design proposed that the values of community are extended beyond the limits of the church building itself, so that it becomes the center piece of a new public & productive plaza. It encourages the cultivation of vegetables that can be processed in a new industrial kitchen on the ground floor, which can be either sold at the weekly market or used for the restaurant in the mass hall, on the day, where there is no church service.
