Description:
The primary school project in Antakya embodies a holistic approach to architecture with a focus on circularity. The design draws inspiration from the village-like community and social dynamics observed in the old An-takya. The incorporation of courtyards, reminiscent of pre-modern Hatay, serves as central hubs for social interactions, giving a sense of intimacy and familiarity among students and staff. The emphasis on biodiver-sity is present in the school’s design, allowing children to engage with the natural world through intercon-nected courtyards and features for wildlife. Sustainability is a key aspect, with natural ventilation, thermal mass properties, and evaporative cooling contributing to energy efficiency and climate resilience. The pro-ject integrates the rich cultural and environmental context of Antakya, providing an innovative and sustaina-ble learning environment.
