Description:
Our design for the new Quarry Exhibit Hall reimagines the structure not just as a shelter, but as an integrated spatial and structural experience. At the heart of the concept is a radical interpretation of the truss system: From traditional steel elements, into a hybrid structure where glass carries all compressive forces, while steel and fabric take on tension. Rather than treating components in isolation, the project creates a system where every element performs multiple roles. The trusses not only carry loads but also accommodate the main circulation pathway, allowing visitors to experience both the fossils and the structure from within. The fabric panels that provide roof shading also function as tensile elements. Similarly, the glass envelope is not just cladding but contributes to the overall structural integrity.
