Description:
The proposed bridge site spans the Maashaven in Rotterdam, an area characterized by contrasting urban conditions. On the north side lies the Wilhelminapier is defined by high-rise buildings and dense development. The south side, in contrast, consists of a more open and underutilized post-industrial zone with significant redevelopment potential. The bridge aims to enhance soft mobility by connecting these two areas, providing a new pedestrian and cyclist route that complements existing infrastructure. The design also responds to the shipping requirements of the harbour by allowing a clear navigational passage of 20 meters in width with no height restriction, ensuring unimpeded vessel traffic.
