Description:
Architectural permanence arises not from fixity, but from cycles of renewal, care, and cultural memory. In Istanbul’s Kemerburgaz Urban Forest, a timber archive stands as both structure and story, gathering intangible heritage while embodying resilience. Courtyards, overhangs, and a communal sofa, drawn from tradition, shape spaces of memory and encounter, while reframing local identity. Local pine, harvested in cycles and replanted in rhythm, sustains a living bond between forest and building. Joinery that unfastens and screw piles that leave no scar allow disassembly, repair, or relocation. Permanence, here, is rooted in continuity – an architecture that endures by adapting, dissolving, and returning.
