Description:
This graduation project explores the notion of play in architecture through the design of a neighbourhood health centre. The programme requires less volume than the vastness of the preserved structure – a former aluminium foundry in Hoboken, Antwerp. This surplus is celebrated through the proposal of a series of public spheres, both indoors and outdoors, where moments of play are thoughtfully integrated into the spatial experience and use of the material environment: slaloming around the columns on the street, climbing the ramps along the building's perimeter, sitting in the lowered parapet with feet dangling at the porous façade facing the square, choosing how to wait in the waiting hall, seeing the vegetation on the first floor too through a new window, perceiving a column as an ornament, or accommodating the unplanned.
