Description:
"How can the detailed scale of timber be translated to the vast scale of urban density?" That was the challenge angled towards us it became the centre of this project, how these two scales could be married, where the pursuit of urban density could be achieved and supported without losing the scale and relation to timber. Hence Grow focused on multiple scales, from the research phase centred on documenting and predicting the changing needs of a growing neighbourhood to designing at the urban, architectural and detail levels and eventually producing an adaptive timber system that would facilitate this urban densification. Ultimately, change and adaptation were adopted as the driving themes within the design. Where adaptive timber structures were experimented with and utilised within the eventual design , resulting in timber architecture not just for today but beyond its current function and for that of its subsequent lifetimes.
