'Als de klokken luiden' investigates how local ingredients can inform the design of a farewell centre and natural cemetery in De Heilige Driehoek in Oosterhout. It proposes a slow, contemplative architecture shaped by place, people, and time, using mineral materials and local know-how to embed the building in the landscape. The project examines clay and earth, focusing on sustainable extraction, thermal performance, and tectonics, and develops a hybrid system of a fired clay outer shell with unfired earth bricks to optimize durability, moisture regulation, and thermal mass, offering a low-tek, mineral-based, resonant and rooted alternative to conventional crematorium typologies.
