Description:
The Open Structure, as an archetype, took shape in the second half of the twentieth century across both architecture – in the work of figures such as Kahn, Habraken, and even Le Corbusier – and the visual arts, through artists such as Sol LeWitt and Carl Andre. Although often either exhausted or hopelessly idealistic, this conceptual approach may nonetheless reveal an unexpected relevance within a cosmetically static environment such as Versailles, where, as an anti-monument, it enters into an anachronistic dialogue with its surroundings.
